Lyrics to "Death Trip"

Mark Rubin — Tue, 08/04/2009 - 08:04

Folks have been asking, so in a stunning turnaround of previous policy (we preferred for YOU to come up with what you THINK we were singing) Mr. Barnes shares with everyone the lyrics to his composition, just now featured on HBO's "True Blood." here ya go:

well it's a death trip trying to follow someone else's dream
when the world that you know goes splitting at the seams
i love my little baby like i love my old machine
she left me for a feller that she hardly ever seen

i'm on a death trip baby, i'm on a death trip

well my world tumbled down when the leaves began to fallRead more

"Death Trip" to air on HBO's True Blood!! August 2nd

Mark Rubin — Wed, 07/29/2009 - 18:36

Here's a note from the old Sugar Hill label folks:

"Hey guys,

Good news. This spot was confirmed today! Up to one minute of the song will be used.

Of the six placements Welk/Sugar Hill/Vanguard has enjoyed in this show’s 2 seasons so far, I anticipate this one to be the best. Song should be highlighted quite nicely.

Airs this Sunday, Aug. 2nd @ 9pm – episode #207Read more

NWSS a solid blast!!

Mark Rubin — Wed, 07/22/2009 - 18:58

Well, it was my first trip and I must state publicly that the fellows from the Yonder Mountain String Band throw an amazing party there in the Oregon woods. Bad Livers put in a solid set (download it here if you are so inclined, courtesy Peacock Radio: http://www.archive.org/details/badlivers2009-07-17.soundboard.flac16,) and Barnes and I played with just about everybody there, including the Del McCoury Band, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, and a whole mess of other fine pickers, not a stinker in the bunch.

Check the photos for some new uploads as well.

Maybe next year, who knows?

Death Trip + HBO's "True Blood?"

Mark Rubin — Mon, 06/08/2009 - 13:19

Maybe so! The old record label called to ask if we wouldn't mind licensing the track "Death Trip" from Blood and Mood to be the closing credits track for an upcoming episode of HBO's Vampire soap opera "True Blood."

What the heck, right?

Will advise it we actually get picked.

Oh, and be sure to look out for Danny out on the road in Colorado soon. His playing is all over the latest Dave Mattews Band CD, which as he likes to say "RAWKS."

Bad Livers in Print, the reading kind...

Mark Rubin — Mon, 04/27/2009 - 22:14

Bad Liver fan and noted music writer Barry Mazor's new book "Meeting Jimmy Rodgers: How America's Original Roots Music Hero Changed the Pop Sounds of a Century " is hitting the shelves this week.

Pick yourself up a copy as it's a fine read about an important subject, but also because he says really nice things about Dan and me and our work with Bad Livers. I'm even quoted a bit (pages 267-277.)

Passover-Holy Week Updates!

Mark Rubin — Wed, 04/08/2009 - 21:51

Webmaster Jack Boeger uploaded a short little snippet of our second set at Slim's last month. From Monk to Barnes to Narcisco Martinez, as fine an example of the Bad Livers esthetic in action. Find it in Videos.

And crank up the Way Back Machine: old pal David Tatge sent me pics of the Killbilly tour that Danny and Mark first met. That would be 1988 friends, which means Barnes and I have been kicking at this can for 21 years now. Check 'em out in the Gallery "Early 90's"Read more

Bay Area Shows were a solid blast!

Mark Rubin — Mon, 03/30/2009 - 09:06

A special thanks goes out to all you fine folks who came out to say howdy and see us in the SF-Santa Cruz region. It was really great to see old friends again.

A big thanks goes to the gang at KPIG who still are out there supporting all these years later.

We'll see you again hopefully up at the Yonder Mountain String Summit!

Check out this, um, review of Hogs on the Highway posted online just a few days ago.

Looks like something computer translated from English, into something else and then back to English again. What do you think?

Bay Area Soon!

Mark Rubin — Fri, 03/13/2009 - 13:37

Hey Kids,

Big week coming up for our pals in the SF area.

I myself will be hitting town early to play some little gigs for little kids in the Oakland area in advance of my performance with 'Kosher Gospel" superstar Joshua Nelson, as part of this years East Bay Jewish Music Festival. *Read more
